Dev Log 4 from Nat
Hey guys welcome to another one of my Dev Logs. Well, this week was definitely a challenge but there is some progress. This week the team and I have decided to change our platform from unity to gdevelop for our prototype. It proved to be much easier to understand and the videos with tutorials were very helpful. Last week since the team and I had short notice to come up with a prototype, I managed to piece together something using the assets already installed in the program. I was able to show the brief example of the mechanics of our game. For this week, I had to import my own images to replace the assets I used. Fortunately, I was able to execute it and also managed to figure out how to jump on the enemies. When our game was being play tested by the class last week, majority of the cons were the hitbox for the ledges. There was an invisible ledge that made the player "levitate". So, I was able to figure out the hitbox and fix the issue. My teammate was also able to make the enemies. I managed to use one of the enemies and configured it to go back and forth and have the player hit it. My other teammate managed to figure out how to do pickups for our power up fishies. I truly proud with how far me and my team has come from a few weeks ago. For my home playtest, I let my partner test out the jumping and enemy hitting features and they were impressed with the progress. I'm hoping to add even more mechanics by next week. And if all goes well, by the end of the month we may already have our first level completed maybe even more depending on the speed of the team. But I don't think I have to worry because my teammates are adapting to gdevelop much better than they would when we were cracking our heads with unity.
